    Default NM Kitfox 1st Flight

    Greetings KF Family
N104Y had its first flight 18 Jan on a calm, warm winter day at Albuquerque's Double Eagle Airport (KAEG). With the help of fellow EAA Chapter members that have flight formation experience (Lee and Randy) and assistance from Kat to preflight & prime the Rotax 914 engine, 104Y leaped into the air just as expected at about 1130 local. We followed the established test flight plan in the practice area 12 nm NW of KAEG. Nothing aggressive was conducted on this first flight before returning to the airport. Thanks to Stick & Rudder training, there were NO surprises in operating performance. After 2 planned missed approach maneuvers to establish a good windscreen view, an uneventful landing was nailed. The flight/ground crew met back at the hanger for a post-flight exam. A great day and two HUGE Kitfox smiles from Bob & Kat at the end of the flight. Total time was 1.4 Hobbs hours, leaving 38.6 to go. Looking forward to the next flight after bad weather passes through this weekend.

Congratulations! Good for you. A fine reward for all the hard work. And the best part is there is so much more enjoyment to come. JImChuk

There's nothing like that maiden flight in an aircraft you built yourself-life changing! Congratulations!

Congratulations on the first flight the two of you must feel wonderful. You inspire those of us who are still building. How did the 914 run, that must be like a rocket ride.

    Congratulations Robert and Kathy.
The Kitfox grin looks great and is well deserved.

Looking forward to seeing you both again at some future fly in.

I enjoyed flying with Kathy up at McCall, Id. during the factory fly in a few years back in the factory green and white demonstrator.

    Enjoy every flight.
