Given the likelyhood that the area was once covered in water I would actually venture to guess that it is actually a sea serpant.

I concur, it was probably a huge Alligator from the age of Dinosaurs.

Actually the Arbuckle mountains in Oklahoma have some similar rock formations, only they are not that close together and so well defined.
