I'm a big fan of Garmin Pilot. Add a Garmin GLO and you have a great system.

I like Wing X. Most allow a 30 day trial. Try them all.

Wing X was the one I decided on. This was over a year ago, but at that time...it was the only one that operated "track up". It was just what I liked. I use it on my I Pad and works very well. I tried out a few of them using the free trial...try them all on and see which one fits.

++1 This is the best advise you will get over this entire thread! Don't take any of our word for it-- Try them all!

Now the second half of the question. Has anyone had any issues with the feds using an Ipad chart? The gent I talked to told me he always kept a chart in the airplane "just in case". I don't know if he was talking about an Ipad "crash" or a ramp check.

I'm a little rusty, but I remember learning "ARROW" while I was learning to fly. Now I've read that one of the "R"'s is no longer needed. The radio license is no longer needed. But from what I remember just the Airworthy cert, registration, owners manual, and weight and balance were mandatory to keep in the aircraft.
