Cub style gear for a model 4
Anyone using Cub style gear on their model 4?
I have been advised that the model 4 longerons are not strong enough to take the loads from cub gear yet the longerons are sufficient for the loads from Grove or factory bungee gear.
My opinion is that many of the aftermarket cub gear for the 1-4 kitfox's used the machine coil spring that had little to no suspension travel and therefore the gear leg or longerons failed on abusive landings.
Stace Schrader from Nampa Idaho is making Cub gear ($1100. )using the Cub Style bungee system that allows much more suspension movement than machine springs do.
Stace does not feel that $3500 TK-1 shocks are needed since Super Cubs flew the rugged backcountry successfully for decades with bungees.
Are TK-1, ACME shocks.... an expensive fad or night and day improvement over bungee?
