Might be easier and much less expensive to carry one of these or one similar in your Kitfox. I carry one in every vehicle including one in my airplane. Just a thought.

A 582 starts real easy with the prop.
I always carry a similar jumpstart, they are also great for recharging cellphones and tablets,a must have?

We tried prop starting it once and couldn't even come close to get it to fire. Can you guys prop 582's?

Shop around for best features and amperage ratings. There are hundreds of models and manufacturers of these type of units on the market now.

**** If you run an AeroVolt or EarthX type battery, do research first before using one of these units to jump start these types of aircraft batteries to avoid damage to your $370.00 battery.

I also use mine to extend greatly my Ipad Air2 tablet running Foreflight and Stratus if the Kitfox I'm flying does not have a USB outlet.

You can hand prop a 582, but you have to really spin it over fast as it needs about 300 rpm to make spark. Ive done it quite a few times. There is a YouTube video of it being done as well. If you have a E gearbox, which has the electric starter in the gearbox, you can put the standard pull starter on the back of the engine. Then you need a pully and such to route the rope into the cockpit. Avids had fittings welded in place for this, not sure Kitfoxes did. JImChuk

I have a new, unused recoil start assembly off a 582UL Model 99 Bluehead I'll let go for a fair price. This has the large, thin composite cover for more clearance to the firewall. PM if interested.
