A sneaky little Kitfox project during my work week... I have been looking for a vent for my heater outlet on the firewall but just couldn't find the right size or shape. The only answer was to make one.
Quite happy with the result, just needs a flash of paint and it will be good to go

    Ben,
I’ve been away from the site after several months, looking at it you have some serious skills relative to fiberglass work, sheet metal work, and machining. Your cowling looks awesome.

Welcome back Paul and thanks for the kind words! I feel like I'm more of a "Jack of all trades and master of none".
I haven't posted much in several months either but as I'm in the finishing stages of my build I'd like to try and post a lot more regular. I have really enjoyed following other builds on this foram and the excitement of aeroplanes coming alive so I want to do my best at sharing this part of my build.

That looks really nice Ben... like everything that you've shared with us! Beautiful workmanship. What engine are you using? Based on that vent, I assume you will have some kind of heat source (like an exhaust pipe muff?) in the engine compartment.

Thanks John, I have a 233 lycoming so yes, using a heat muff and a valve on the firewall just behind this vent. I wanted some veins in the vent outlet to direct the hot air down slightly so it doesn't rise up under the instrument panel.

This photo is of the heater valve on my firewall, the valve is made by Jabiru (Australian light aircraft/engine manufacturer) I thought it was really nicely made and compact.IMG_2487.jpg

Just spent some time looking over your build thread Ben.

Thank you for all the detailed pics and write ups.
The posts from all the builders are fun and thought provoking.
Your firewall, throttle quadrant, custom brackets, headset jacks
and usb setup/position and all the great bodywork/paint are 1st rate.

I'm excited! I can work a few more hours...
Time to get back to work on the kitfox!! Lol.

That’s great to hear, I think the ideas that get ignited and shared around the homebuilt/experimental community are fantastic. My favorite part of Oshkosh is wondering around the homebuilts and seeing everyone’s different personalities built into there aircraft.

    Back to work...

I too am impressed with your workmanship. Makes me want to try harder. I especially like the throttle location and was wondering what type it is and where you sourced it.

Thanks Joe, the throttle quadrant is one that came from Aircraft Spruce, I modified it a bit to suit and put a different knob on it. If you look up the quadrant section, at A/C spruce you will see them.

Finished a false panel that hides all the wires and hoses running to the centre console, this also has the heater vent mounted in it.
Next it's onto finishing the centre console.IMG_2492.jpg
