    Default Push Lock hose/fittings

    Anyone have an easy process for installing the blue Aeroquip hose onto the Push Lock fittings?
    I have only tried one so far using engine oil as a lube and some heat gun heat. Almost have it fully on but not quite, and that was working on the bench, not on the plane. I guess I'll try John McBean's dish soap suggestion on the next one. I have thought about sticking the hose end in some boiling water too.
    If it is just going to be a bear to get these on, then I guess I'll have to demount the oil cooler to get the 45 degree Setrab Push Lock fittings I'm using onto the hoses and then install the fittings into the oil cooler.
    Three of the fittings on my oil thermostat are just brass barbs (rather than Push Lock). Is getting the blue (Push Lock) Aeroquip hose onto those easier I hope?

    I use the boiling/hot water method , hoses slide right on. Its a uniform heating.

    +2 on hot water (with a couple drops of dish soap).

    I have never used any soap or lube on the hose or fitting , I haven't found it necessary .

    Just out of curiosity is that method better than using AN fittings and braided hose? Is there pros and cons of this push on hose?

    I prefer the pushlock system. The braid is more difficult to cut cleanly.

    The only way I have been able to do it is to start the hose on the push lock barb and throw the assembly in to the deep freezer for a while, take it out shove on and sometimes a second freeze was required, to get it to go on all the way, but sure ain't coming off again without a blade that's for sure..
    The fitting shrinks and the rubber don't bite as much I guess, but it worked for me..good luck

    Well, finally got all the Push Lock fittings installed. Soaked the hose ends in boiling water for 5 minutes and used dishwashing liquid on the fitting barbs and a little in the hose end. Still took some mighty pushing and a little "fixture" to help steady the 90 degree elbows. Makes for a real clean fire sleeve installation. Somewhat intrigued by the freezer approach, but I was in get it done mode rather than experimenting.
    Turns out that I will have to remove the oil cooler to install the fittings into it anyway as the 45 degree fittings will not clear the engine mount to turn them (at least in my installation, your results may vary).

    By holding the fittings in a soft-jawed vice I've been able to install the hose dry without any other help from heat or lubricant. Guess I have strong fingers.
