    Unhappy water temperature problem

I have a model IV with a 582. I just recently purchased the plane. The water
temp does not work. I have replace the temp probe and now when I turn power on (ignition switch) the gauge peggs the needle to the right. I have reversed the leads with no change. I have verified the wiring is correct on the gauge per a wiring diagram. Any suggestions?

Which sensor part number did you install and is this on a Westach quad gauge?

It's the Westach temp sender 399s1. The guage is a westach 2 1/4 square
    part # 2a9-1.

Measuring between pins 4 and 5 on the back of the instrument should give 12 to 14 volts. Ensure one side of the probe is grounded to the same point as pin 5.

You can also measure the resistance of the probe. It should be around 2K ohms cold and decrease to 212 ohms at 212 deg F.

I suppose you could rig up a resistor and potentiometer to substitute for the probe if you suspect a bad meter.

Glad you're going again. I hope the replacement is long term reliable for you.
