Oil in #4 cyl (912UL)
Has anyone had the problem of oil accumulating in a cylinder while being stored over the winter? About a 1/2 a cup of oil poured out of the #4 cyl.
All other plugs are dry and are in great shape.
Thanks

825-012 replaced that p/n in 5/24/11.
The upgrade was for an improved internal flow back valve and more filter media. This may be the issue.
I still have a couple of the old ones, too. They will filter just fine but you need to pull through the motor and burp the oil tank more often if you don't run the engine.

do you have a tail dragger? normal happening.
always remove spark plug in spring and let empty and clean out with carb or brake cleaner.

Yes, she is a tail dragger. I am going to order the new P/N oil filter today.
I had visions of an expensive engine repair. I will clean it up, run it and keep an eye on that jug.
Once again, Thanks for the help! This forum is invaluable.

Re: Oil in #4 cyl (912UL)
The previous owner explained how to check the oil level and to always hand rotate the prop before starting. I found it during my conditional. I decided to Inspect and rotate my plugs top to bottom on each cylinder. I am going to pull the plugs any time it sits a while. Hopefully once I get this conditional done I will be flying regularly and not have to worry about it. I am also going to look at installing a thermostat. The high temps here in SE AK are only in the mid 60's. When I bought it last year I new it had carb issues but I am now thinking that the #4 plugs were oil soaked which made problems worse. I did have one carb with float issues that I fixed.
Thanks again, You guys are great!

With your car quest filter, you might as well eliminate the filter completely.
The lawnmower that was designed for calls for a very low pressure bypass. With the oil pressure that a 912 runs, that bypass is open nearly all the time and the filter element is doing nothing.
If you don't believe me take one apart. Then take apart a Rotax filter. You will see the difference I am talking about.
A $20 filter is cheap compared to a $15,000 engine.

I am cheap on some things but not when it comes to oil and filters. I just ordered New rotax filters.
Thanks
