    Default S-LSA Conditionals

There's a new S-LSA on my field that is generating some discussion. Do these planes need to have the "annual" done by an IA or can an A&P do it?

I believe a certified light sports aircraft mechanic can do the inspections.
According to Blue Ridge Community College the LSRMA is able to do repairs and inspections, http://community.brcc.edu/aviation/i...p/light-sport/ . However, I would recommending checking the Regulations.

I concur (as per the article) that a holder of the 80-120 hour class certificate can do the maintenance and inspections, but in absence of someone holding that certificate, does the annual inspection require the signature of an IA or is an A&P license sufficient?

What rating did the mechanic that did your last annual hold? (Your plane is an S-LSA, right?)

The site Paul posted above says A&P can also do a condition inspection on a SLSA. Scroll down to the What is a SLSA section.

An IA and/or an A&P can also do the annual inspection.

    Av8r3400,
I missed you question, I have a United Airlines IA do my inspections. I do all of the work, and he looks over my shoulder. However, the original question in the first post was about what level of certification was required. I would be perfectly willing to do my own inspections but the regs don't allow it. I have been thinking of going to the LSRMA training, so I can do my own, and considering it is only 3 weeks, I still may do it. It is kind of hard to justify as long as I have the IA doing them for a flat rate, which includes any and all issues through out the year for a flat rate of $300.

    Paul,
I'm not sure if you are questioning the IA portion of my post or just adding back up to the answer of the original question. At any rate, for clarification, here are the requirements for the IA rating:
PRIVILEGE & RESPONSIBILITY: The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) initiated the issuance of the Inspection Authorization (IA) more than 35 years ago..

I will not disagree with that, but go read page 4 for the inspection of an SLSA, it is different than for a Certified Aircraft.
