OK, I admit that it probably looks like overkill, but this is what I'm doing... I have a nice 1/2" valve made by a company here in the Denver area. It's an anodized aluminum ball valve with Teflon seats/seals. It's stupidly expensive, & I bought it during a period of insanity, but it's nice. I like the idea of being able to shut off even the radiated heat in the summertime that's going right back there where my avionics are. I'm also thinking it might be nice to be able to modulate the flow sometimes. It does occasionally get cold in Colorado. I'll control it with a very short push-pull cable from the panel, right next to the fan switch. I'm using the Earl's coil sold by Kitfox.

    John,

Thanks for the reminder - it's bookmarked now - they make some cool stuff and I'm going need some of it - as I will be doing oil cabin heat.

I like the looks of that valve, smaller and adjustable in flight. Do you have the vendors name and part number? Ok, I noticed the vendors name, but I still need the part number.

I'm installing the Earl's oil cooler/computer fan cabin heater.... Have any of you found a nice firewall pass through for your coolant hoses?

Pictures... Part numbers... Sources.... I don't really want to simply send the hose through the firewall... I'd like to do a proper pass through, and I was hoping there was a tried a true method out there already.

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers,

Not tried and true but simple. I mounted the heater with the inlet outlet fittings projecting through the firewall to eliminate tubing in the cockpit.

It required making a thin wrench of sheet metal to secure the Earls swett soldered fittings as I tightened those forward of the firewall. I found some Neoprene foam that is pressed between the heater core and the firewall for a seal. Definitely not fancy, but light weight and very little risk of hot coolant all over my legs at the worst possible moment.

    Pic of the firewall side.

Nice....very simple.... Yet, it does exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks Lowell.

    Ackselle,

I too am in the process of installing a heater kit (bought directly from the Kitfox McBeans). In it there are two welded up steel tubes, each on a plate made to bolt or rivet to the firewall and act as the pass through point for your heater core inlet & outlet. I think they are stainless and look very sturdy (I intend to use them as soon as I figure out the exact spot for each side before I drill holes). You could probably order them separately from Kitfox.
