Default Kitfox tailwheel spring 3 leaf

Just got my new 3 leaf tailwheel spring from Kitfox. Noticed that it is plain bare steel. Kind of thought it would have been painted or something but it's not. Anyway, just wondering what the consensus is as far as treating the spring? Thinking about using a good etching primer and then some rattle can industral enamel? Any other ideas?

I used POR15 which is a super tough rust proof paint / primer system. It has held up very well over the years.

I like that POR-15. Says you have to paint over it if exposed to UV. What kind of paint did you paint over it with?

None, I only fly at night when there's no UV...

So far it's been fine without a top coat, not sure what will happen in 10 years, but we will see.
