Default From TX to LA and San Francisco

I have updated my blog with some more on Oshkosh:

    http://www.flyinglowandslow.com/blog/

I have been back for just over a week and hope to be heading out tomorrow or the next day for LA, San Francisco and the Burning Man Festival before returning to Texas. This trip will pretty much wrap up my flying for the year as I have some consulting work that will take me out of the country for an extended period. So far I have 120 pretty much trouble free hours in my KF4. Some work has had to be done along the way but that goes with the territory.

A friend has loaned me his SPOT tracker for this trip. There is a link to the tracking page on the top of my blog page (Where Am I?) but here it is:

If you click on it now you will just see my test run via car from the airport to my home a couple of days ago. I discuss my route on the blog and I will be flying nearby let me know. I love to show off my airplane and am not adverse to giving a short "motivational flight" to any builders I may meet along the way.

Thanks again for all of the assistance you all have given me towards reaching my dream!

Traveling solo. I have "repositioned" my airplane to CLL which is closer to my home and easier to get a ride to. Looks like departure will be tomorrow morning. Hope to make it to El Paso TX or Demming NM.

BTW, if any of you know of airports that allow or encourage camping let me know. In the Phoenix area I plan to stay at Payson. I talked with the Arizona Aviation Dept at Oshkosh and they recommended it as there is a free campground for pilots and a restaurant on field. I also see that it gets fairly cool at night which is appealing also.

Payson is beautiful. You'll have a great view of the Mogollon Rim.
    (Pronounced Mo-gee-on Rim.)
Pine trees, cool nights, good food at the cafe on the field and Av-Gas from the truck at the FBO shack out in front of the cafe.

    Airport info here including campground:

Made it to Payson around 1:00 local time. May stay a couple of nights. I updated my blog with pictures this morning at Donna Ana.

It's pretty chilly up here already, thanks to the storms. Now it is clearing out so it should get even cooler. I plan to do some hiking tomorrow and head for LA on Monday.

Not much of a light show last night although a Glassair pilot flew up from Phoenix at sunset thinking there would be. He was the only other camper and I am the only one tonight. I put a partial post on the blog with pictures. Plan to leave early tomorrow for LA.

This morning at O22 it is 300 and 1/4 in smoke. It has been clearing in the early afternoon and when it does I'll be heading to Chico to try to cross the mountains there as the closer passes have smoke and/or TFRs.

    Pictures on the blog.

I was without internet for my time at Burning Man but I am home now, catching up on my blog. A work in progress but I hope to have it all caught up in a day or two. I had a truly amazing experience.

My plane now has 186 hours on it with no real issues. I have had a wonderful summer. I have been offered a consulting job in Ecuador and will be leaving next Sunday for several months. My trip has been really economical EXCEPT for about $4K for fuel. So I'm looking to replenish my avgas account for next summer!

    Cheers!
