    Default Garmin 500/600 Series

Planning on replacing my 296 with one of the newer units, not planning on using the XM music or weather but the new satelite system for weather.(Don't know much about it but it sounds good) Interested in some opinions as to which Garmin will fit in a Gizmo mount through the same hole in the instrument panel as the 296 and which model has adequate resolution for weather and terrain aviodance.

I installed an Aera 500, non weather, in a Gizmo mount in my Kitfox. I liked it so much I replaced a 396 with weather in my Cardinal with an Aera 510 with weather. Both work great. The 510 with weather uses a LOT of battery so I always run the 510 off of my Cardinal power thru the cigarette lighter. The touch screen is different but not hard to get use to.

I've got a brand new gizmo mount for my 500 right here.

    Width is standard 6.25"

Height (of the face) per the included drawing is 4.25".
