    Default Kitplanes article

There is a nice article on Kitplanes.com about H&B.P.’s SS7 with the 916.
I think some of us need to do a group buy on 916s next year. 😁

That 916 is 70% the price of gold, pound for pound. No thanks.

Haha that's a good way to look at it that I'd never thought of!

Just don't test fly one. I won't because I know, just like when I flew the Kitfox, I will buy one. That has to be sensational.

    Gold is about $1992 U.S. per ounce. That's about $31,872 per pound… a quick search says the 916 is around 200lb. That’s $6,374,400 for the weight of a 916.

I’ll agree 916’s are spendy….but gold, different universe

It's too bad it's not accurate, because in that case, a 916 @ $49,995 which is about 25 ounces of gold times 70% would only weigh 17.5 ounces! We'd be moving everything as far forward as possible instead of as far back!

1 and 1/2 pound of gold or a 185 lb 160hp engine, sounds like the engine is a bargain. I have a little gold but it sure isn't any fun to play with that I have found. Haha. To each their own as far as I'm concerned. Most everything I bought for my plane was too expensive but I wasn't really looking for an investment. Haha

While visiting Rotax Vernon as they re-assembled my 912UL last week, I was able to skim through the kitplanes article, so it was fun to think of what would I get if my plane was the latest and greatest instead of the state of the art from 32 years ago.
Model 3 with 4 wings, 300lb lighter empty weight; ok useable payload is 400 compared to 600lb ..
rate of climb, 1000 fpm or 1300fpm
    cruise 95mph v. 120 .... stall on landing 36 vs 42
fuel consumption, I won’t guess the numbers but I can guess the 916 crowd doesn’t care, all depends on what we want to brag about, eh?
Neat that Rotax keeps on developing, we know they should have the budget for it !
