Default Making It Easier On Myself

    Hi Guys,

I'm new here. I'm going to be building a Kitfox with a friend for my Senior Capstone Engineering Project. We are just freshman now, but we like to get started early, especially given the scale of the project we have chosen. To that end, I have a couple of questions.

    1. What, if any, specialist tools will I need to buy?

    2. Are there any general tips specific to Kitfoxes or building experimentals that would behoove me to know? I'm talking about tips such as using a cheater bar to increase leverage, that sort of stuff.

    Thanks a bunch,

    Speedbird

There's a thread on this forum that specifically addresses your second question:

Building a KF should be a great project. It will be an amazing learning experience. You'll find that these forums are an invaluable tool.
It's hard to come up with a complete list of tools since there are so many. In addition to basic tools you'll need different specialty tools at different times during the project.
A drill press, bandsaw and belt sander will be needed quite often. You'll be doing a fair amount of riveting so you'll need tools for that. The primary
adhesive used, Hysol, is mixed 50/50 by weight so a small scale is handy. You'll be using reamers quite a bit and the different sizes needed are called
out in the build manual. You'll want some sort of dolly to easily move the fuselage around and a rotisserie for the wings/fuselage. Make sure you have
plenty of storage space (shelving) to store all the component kits and misc parts.

Keep us posted on your progress!
