A full Garmin suite like mine will cost probably 20K today. G3X 10" and a 7", GTN radio, GTX Xpdr with In and Out ADSB, two axis autopilot with control head. I wouldn't get the 7" screen if done again. Don't forget the ELT. Auto Pilot is truly unnecessary. I flew without using it for about a year and now that I am employing it from time to time I conclude that it is just a luxury item that I truly could have done without. If you aim to do a fair amount of cross country maybe you will find it worthwhile.

You forgot the firewall forward kit. That's another 4-5k.

I think engine component kit = firewall forward kit in the original post.

Another angle on all of this... the pricing is for a new kit. Some wait for a deal on a partially built kit and finish it. Can get a discount that way. Search projectkitfox on youtube.

I’ve been watching those videos. It’d be interesting to know what he paid for all that. Not sure I’m super excited by the apex motor, but hey.
3x the kit cost?!?! In my example, my kit cost was about $45k (no motor, no panel). $135k??? Yikes!
Guess I was hoping for people to say “my plane cost xxx”. Maybe it’s too painful to total it all up.

I am not sure it is as easy as 3X. At the same time, there are alot of variables. Are you going to do everything yourself? Farm out panel? Farm out paint?

I am doing everything myself. I think I'll be around $90K when done.

My .02 though is that if $75K would be ok for someone, but $90K is out of the question, then this probably is not for them.

The only way to get a better guess is go further/deeper into the itemization list you had. And a list of tools.

70,000 is in the ball park, I purchased a SS7 kit in 2012 with most options, 912iS and firewall forward, Very complete avionics with Advanced 5600 EFIS and garmin com and transponder. All was purchased through Kitfox factory. I ended up at 75,000 all tools/accessories included. Unfortunately I am in WA. state and had to add 7,000 in sales tax because Wa. requires aircraft registration and sales tax must be paid just as if it were an automobile.

Thanks for the answers so far. Another thing I might have put in my original question would have been time to build as well. It’s advertised as needing about 1000 hours but in another thread a fellow is over 4 years into his. Slow and steady wins the race? I get it... family, jobs, waiting for parts/help, all slow one down.
So along with 💰💰💰 cost, how long did it take YOU, from kit showing up in the big truck to your first flight? Just trying to see if this makes sense for me to do.

    Thanks again,

My post was a basic guesstimate. Well, that's pretty darn close to 3X. Average kits now days are $25-30K+. Times 3 comes out to $75-90K Ok, I use old style math, not common core crap the teach these days.
Like I mentioned, if you buy used items such as engine and avioinics you can save a considerable amount.

Thanks for all this info, guys. I’m just trying to get a guesstimate if what this project would cost. Seems like 3x is not way off. Gonna be give or take, but that gets us close. So the basic kit now is $30K... $90K, plus or minus (probably plus). I’m pretty handy with tools and have a more stocked garage than many... not as much as others, especially guys that have built their own planes!

When ya start getting into the $100K range it’s natural to wonder what else you can get with that money. A hell of a nice plane, but if you want a Kitfox...

So for those of you that have finished and are flying your own Kitfox.... Let’s see those planes!!!

Everything kitfox has went up a lot in the last couple years. Budget 100k and hope you come in under that.
You won't if you want a turbo engine and dual glass cockpit..........
