Default Book - Backcountry Flying techniques ?

Can anyone recommend the best book on backcountry flying techniques ?

If there are not many, (if any) available, has anyone considered writing one ?

I look towards the shining lights and instructors in this fascinating area of aviation.

    Christmas is coming !

    Hi Ratc,

While there a few 'booklet' on backcountry flying, I would suggest that:

    1. you use the web to do some research on the topic as there are many, however not in the one place, excellent resources on backcountry flying.

    2. if you want to actually gain experience and skills, at the same time as developing knowledge, then I suggest you invest in a trip to Idaho and do some hours with
    stick and Rudder.

I think that books on the topic are a little redundant given the potential for the web to deliver you information in such a timely and dynamic fashion.

    cheers

THE COMPLEAT TAIL DRAGGER PILOT(yes that the correct spelling) is an excellent book for anyone that hasn't flown a conventional gear plane. There are a few on eBay right now. It makes it nice to know what expect when you start the lessons for the endorsement. This book helped me.

I thought everyone new about "Mountain Flying Bible" Revised, by Sparky Imeson. Its been around since 1998 and covers all the bases. Available from Sporty's and elsewhere.

ASA will release Amy Hoover and Dick Williams' new book in January. It's titled Mountain, Canyon and Backcounty Flying and will definitely be the comprehensive book to own on the subject.

    Bush and Mountain Flying.
    CC Pocock

    ISBN 978 0620 49666 7

He's moved over to Nevada from South Africa and is offering FAA approved training.
His book is interesting, and I have no idea how good he is at training.

He seemed to go down well with pilots here, who trained with him.

    Enjoy.
