Default Ideas for engine wiring connections???

I finally made my own wiring diagram of the engine wiring on my 582 prior to engine removal. The wires were simply bayonet connectors with lots of duct tape. Yes duct tape, in a bundle. I'm not going to follow the builders idea on connectors when this project goes back together. I have a couple ideas in my head on how I think it should be secured, but I'm looking for others ideas as well. I may not have a lot of extra wire to work with when the engine comes back from overhaul either. I'm worried I may have to solder and shrink wrap extra wire to make this job look and work like it should. Would that be acceptable?

    Beeryboats,

If you do a quick check on the Steinair site link in the left column - look up the "terminals" section. One standard way of splicing wires in aircraft is to use a knife splice which can be easily soldered at the knife joint and the whole works covere in heat shring tubing. That would help if you need to lengthen any leads to the engine.

Might not be a bad idea to peruse Stein's site as thay have just about everything a person might use in wiring an aircraft. A person might find some ideas for connectors there.

    Sincerely,

    Berryboats,
I am in the same predicament. Whom ever had their hand at wiring my project needs to have all his electrical tools and supplies taken away for good. I will be completely rewiring before any airtime. Everything works electrically but very messy job. I will be using Duetz connectors for my project. Every wire that contains a crimped butt connector will be replaced!

I attended Bob Nuckolls electrical seminar last year at Brodhead Wi and learned a lot. This guy knows the theory of electrical systems and has the practical knowledge required to build them. I highly recommend his book "The AeroElectric Connection".

Thanks Tom. The second link was a very interesting way to splice wires.
