I have gotten several quotes ranging from $1496 with Falcon to $2234 from Avemco and $1834 from AOPA. I am low time. 80 hours and only 10 in tailwheel so I am a big risk. What I discovered is most insurance has some type of a provision to limit their exposure to a claim during the first 10-40 hours. Some will provide liability only in the first 10 hours. Some will provide liability only for the first 40 hours. The best deal I got was through Falcon for $1496. That is full coverage with a modified deductible during the first 40 hours. Basically the deductible is 10% of the value for any in motion claim and $500 for any not in motion claim. So if i value my plane at $30,000 then my deductible is $3000. Still kind of high but better than eating 30k. After 40 hours when it moves into phase 2, it goes to $500 and $100.
I have a zillion hours with about 1000 in tailwheel. $1296 from Falcon is what I pay for full coverage.......so with your time, the price doesn't seem unreasonable.
