Yep, the Wattles are in bloom. Must be picturesque down that valley of yours right now Ross.

Flying in Alaska gives a person great places to hike and take photos. The Kitfox has been proven to make a good bush plane. Hope you enjoy this collection of moose, bear and fall colors..

Well, Hello All from a heating up South Africa.
A friend of mine bought on of the first kitfox 7s' that was brought into Africa the other day and asked me to ferry it from Nelspruit, South Africa, to East London for its annual and transfer of authority to fly. Now Dave Hart and I are believers in that all of Africa should be filled with Kitfoxs', so I jumped at the chance...
Planned routing was Nelspruit - South of Kruger National Park - over Swaziland and next to Mozambique, to Mkuze (North of Richard's Bay and the St Lucia Wetland Park). Here I would take on 40 litres of Fuel that I had strapped into the seat next to me, and set sail for Durban (Virginia Airport to refuel) while avoiding the King Chaka International airspace. Along the coast to sleep at a lovely place called Oribi Gorge where my cousins have a sugar cane and Macadamia nut farm. The following day, I would get going to East London and Dave Hart's Workshops by mid morning..

Weeeeell, when I launched at Nelspruit, I had no idea that I would be bumped around by a developing gale over Swaziland and then inserted into a washing machine north of the Hluhluwi Game reserve and Rhino Sactuary and spat out at the coast to cruise on the now smooth air at a ground speed of between 135 and 150 Kts while indicating 110 miles per hour at 26.3 inches manifold pressure and 4300 rpm for a fuel burn of 11 litres per hour!!

I abandoned my sleeping and refuelling plans at Virginia and Oribi Gorge and went straight on to reach East London a day early at 2.00pm.
Howzat for speed!
Oh! and I had half tanks left over.....

After eyeing this gravel bar for a couple of years a friend and I decided it was worth a try. We both did an inspection pass, then my wingman did a touch and go to check the surface for solid. We then did another inspection pass to see how deep the tires cut into the surface. Finallaly Adrian did the landing first. His take off is very short and his stall speed is under 27 mph. Once he was down he assured me there was lots of room for my Model IV with the 912UL. Maybe I was little over cautious but for my first river bar landing why not. Attached is a video of a take off and landing and as you can see there is so much room it looks like a DC3 could take off and land.

Beautiful spot Norm and in my opinion a textbook method for assessing an off airport landing site. 👍 Fly safe. See you in Casa Grande in a while. Bring your guitars.
