    Default Bose

My wife came home the other day with some interesting info. She has a set of Bose QC-2 over the ear headphones for music. On her last return from China, she entered the cockpit per FAA regs while one of the pilots took a potty break and noticed the first officer wearing Bose Headsets. She asked if they were the Bose noise cancelling pilot headsets - I had a borrowed set to evaluate and she knew of them and their cost. The answer was no. They were the Bose noise cancelling music headsets. He explained that a Southwest pilot had developed a microphone arm that would fit into the cord fitting on the QC-2 and QC-15 headsets converting them to Aviation use. United Airlines had recently approved their use on their airplanes. If you have the headsets already, a real good deal to pick up the microphone. If you bought both the headset and the mike arm, still almost half the cost of the aviation Bose.

I have not tried the microphone, but like the earphones.

I know several professional pilots that use this setup. Delta approves it, too.

I have tried them (QC-15 with UFlyMike) back to back with the $1100 A20 Bose headsets and they are nearly identical sounding to me, in my plane.

The one down side is that when the battery goes dead on the headset, the system is completely dead. The A20 will still function as a passive headset without battery.

Two good points - the previous thread - missed that and the battery issue.
    Thanks.

Small world this aviation biz...10 years ago my flight instructor who was a kid about 24 years old was wearing these and I asked about them. He said his dad flew for Southwest and "engineered" them. He said if I was interested he could get me one of the mic arms. I never did it though. I saw the kid about two years after that as I was leaving a Southwest flight in Salt Lake...He was one of the pilots saying goodbye to the passengers departing. I complimented him on the landing and he got a big grin on his face.
