    Default Sliding Window Option?

Is there a (done before) sliding window option for the KF?

I have a small cutout window I made to swing up & inward to allow photography. It works okay, but I have intention to make a larger opening & have arrived at a full window concept (the top section of the door window) horizontal slider to accomplish this.

If there is already somebody out there with a slider window, I would love to hear from them to share info about how to do it.

Otherwise, if nobody has done this, I am looking for a source for a shallow "U" channel that can be used for a slider groove. So far, I've found advice such as Tractor Supply, Home Depot & I have found some in McMaster Carr.

    Anybody have any ideas please?

    Thanks

Not sure what size you're looking for but you can also try Orange Aluminum or online metals.

Try your local glass shop or a cabinet maker. I used to put a bunch of sliding glass cabinet doors in RVs and boats, even put sliding patio doors in a few larger yachts.

    Skot,
I really like your idea. Maybe a project for me in the future as well.
The pictures show what I did on my doors and the McMaster Carr H channel I used. The channels I used are about 1/8 inch and the moving Lexan might be able to overlap the aft fixed section within the channel. I just checked and if the Lexan on the moving section was the .030 thickness, it will fit in the channel side by side with some adhesive backed felt on the edges of the moving section. This would keep it from rubbing against the fixed section and help prevent scratching. It would be a fun challenge. Back in the day, I was taking almost weekly photos of an 18 month construction project and back then, I had to open the door to get the quality I wanted. Your idea would eliminate the door closing challenge.

    Skot,
One more thought. If you decide to use the H channel, you will need to protect the channel from collapsing when bending it to match the curve of the door frame. I packed the channels on each side with thin strips of aluminum to slightly over tight. This prevented collapsing. For the really thin aluminum, I used roof flashing from Lowe's.

Skot - any fixtures to hold the window open or does it stay open pretty well anyway? Looks like a nice deal for photo shoots.
