    Default Poly Fiber Outgassing

Well, I have a little bit of a challenge. I moved my recently completed right wing into the house where I was storing the left wing, and the left wing out to the shop to start building it. My wife reports that the house now stinks pretty badly. The solvents must still be evaporating off that wing. I know it's a long shot, but does anyone have an estimate on how long that wing will be outgassing? I sprayed the last coat of Poly Spray on Friday.

Good question. Try calling Polyfiber; they are quite helpful.

I gave them a call. The tech said that they outgas pretty heavily for about a week. He did say that if a wife lives in the house, it's probably better to get it out of the house as the smell will linger for awhile. I have struts, horizontal stab, and elevator hanging on my garage wall right now. I think I can rig up a wall mount that supports the wing by the spar in the garage. Hopefully there will still be enough room for the stab and elevator, so they too can hang once covered. I can move the struts into the house.

I remember my wings still had a smell after several months.

Congrats on having an understanding wife to allow your wings in the house. I felt fortunate my wife allowed my engine to sit in the bedroom for a good while till i was ready to hang it.

Of course, after she complained of the smell, I told her to pick out some new blinds for the kitchen that she's been hinting at.

She is very understanding and supportive. She might draw the line at storing an engine in the bedroom though, so Congrats to you on your extremely understanding wife
