    Default Wing covering.

When covering the lower surface of the wing, do I just cut a rectangular hole to allow the lift strut brackets to come up through the hole? Then I assume that the aluminum reinforcement plate is bonded to the inside surface around the hole, followed up by placing a fabric doily around the rectangular hole.

If anyone has pictures of the lift strut forward and aft locations in the wing with covering on, I would appreciate being able to see them.

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Are you doing Oratex?

No, using the Poly Fiber fabric and tapes with Stewart Systems to avoid the respirator. I like the glossy finish of a wet look paint.

Cut as small a hole as possible, even if the fabric is somewhat pushed up. The reason is that when you do the final 350 degree shrink, all these little clearance holes will get bigger. You can always trim more away later but you can't add fabric.

Like Jim said, do as small a hole (or slit for the jury strut brackets) as possible. I used Oratex, as you know Steve, and I did it a little differently and attached those backing plates to the wing structure itself, then glued the fabric to those during installation of the fabric. It is probably of little help to you, but here is a link to the page that shows some pictures of that -

Thanks, very helpful. The Stewart system video shows making two slits and then the fabric falls down between the ears. Forward bracket has the tie down loop, and I didn’t do it on the rear bracket either. Just wanted to see what others have done.
