    Default Type III rebuild progress

    Hi everyone.

    I thought I'd provide a status report.

I had a calamity a few months ago, stemming from towing the aircraft and having an unsecured wing deploy at 50mph and hitting a road sign. You can't imagine the amount of damage that caused.

    The damage was as follows:
Cabin top wing attach structure severely mangled
    Left lower door post bent
Right lower longeron aft of gear bent
Right lower longeron mid fuselage bent
Right lower longeron under stabilizer bent
Left wing aft spar (outer 3 ribs) bent
Left wing main spar wing point attach severely damaged
    Left rear wing strut bent
    Left wing jury strut bent
    Right flapperon spar bent
    Left flapperon horn broken
Fuselage station at the instrument panel is 1” out of square
    Fuselage twisted at rudder post

Well all the bent stuff has been straightened. A new cabin top weldment was purchased from Kit Fox and has been welded into place. The covering has been done up through the the first coat of poly brush and all that's left is securing the butt ribs and installing the windshield, and of course completing the painting.

I came down with some kind of bug, so work has been suspended for the moment.

    Cheers,

That was a lot of work in a very short time Chuck. Glad you're on the home stretch. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for the well wishes. Attached are some progress photos. This is my first attempt at attaching pictures, so here goes.

The first Kitfox project I bought had the same thing happen to it before I bought it. Never did get around to fixing it although I meant to. Ended up stripping the engine and some instruments and sold it on ebay. Don't know if it ever got back in the air. It did teach me one thing though. I've hauled my Avid Flyers quite a few times, some for quite a long ways, but I've always tied the flaperons togeather usually in at least 2 different places just incase a wing lock tube came loose.
