    Default Moving folded Kitfox around

    Hi all

I normally store my KF3 unfolded, but I’m going to folding it for a few weeks while it has a temporary new home. When I did the engine swap I had to fold it and it seemed to be a bit of a fiddle to manoeuvre around when folded because the tow bar fouled on the rudder/elevator/Wing tips.

Please can anyone describe a nice simple way to move a KF around when folded? Ideally I’d like to be able to pull AND steer at the same time on my own if that makes sense.

I found that a Piano dolly work great for the tailwheel to sit in. They only cost a few bucks at a local store.

If you are pulling it backwards, I have used a 3/4" soft nylon braided rope, in a U, holding each ends of the U in my hands, around the tail wheel, just above the tail wheel swivel.
I used that for 5 years, every flight, to get my model 5 Outback into my shop, after folding the wings.

Harbour freight 1000 pound mini dollys. $8 on sale. You can push it sideways, lengthwise, turn 360 degrees in its own length...on and on.

Just be careful when you have a cart under the tailwheel. If you roll over something that flips the cart over, you can bang up the rudder. Don't ask how I know that... JImChuk

Do you have the droop tips? I have storaged mine folded the 23 years I have owned it. It has the bars at the rear to attach to the wings (Mine have never been removed just fold back for flight) I just hold it by the droops of the wing tips and it works fine. For sharper turns just break the tailwheel into swivel or just lift the tailweheel by the wing tips.

Boy, my Model III doesn't work that way. With the wings folded, the tail is so heavy that I can't pick it up, and tail wheel wont swivel because the rudder is clamped by the wings.

If I am doing something wrong, let me know. It sure would make life easier.

Put the tailwheel in a dolly and then fold the wings

This is from a friend with an Avid, but will work just as well made for a Kitfox.
