    Default Tire Upgrade

Off with the 6.00 x 6 tires and on with the new Desser 8.50x6 tundra tires. I can't wait to try them out. It really looks nice standing taller on the new wheels.

All ready to take on some highland strips now Phil! Hope you are enjoying it. Nearly finished the test flight period? Are you happy with the engine?

    cheers

We had beautiful weather today and I managed to get the new tires dirty. It was quite dusty at the Owyhee State Reservoir airstrip, there was a big dust cloud after my takeoff. After that I went to another strip just a little west of the south end of the reservoir that is only 1200' long. It was even dustier, the tires were making a rooster tails of dust while taxiing.

The Desser tires are feeling very nice compared to the 6.00x6 tires I took off. I am running them at 12 psi and they are nice and soft over the bumps. I also noticed the difference with the new Grove tailwheel spring too, it was nice and springy over the bumps.

Ross, I finished my flight testing about a month ago and have started going to some backcountry strips. The engine is running like a top, I'm very pleased with the engine.

Bruce, the tires weigh the same as the ones I took off.

Phil are you running them tubeless or with tubes? Those are going to be my next tires.

Phil, I am also curious about that 1200' strip west of Owyhee State. Was it Crowley Ranch, a private strip?

    Phil,
Looking really good and I am really envious of your proximity to some the greatest adventure flying anywhere. I have been into Owyhee State Airport twice and remember the first time when one of the group yet to land asked how to tell when you are on the strip. Someone answered, "If you can see it, you're not on it".

I am running the tires with tubes. Desser doesn't call it a tubeless tire, but maybe you could.

The strip I went to isn't on a sectional map, it's on the river west of Leslie's Gulch about 7 miles. We call it Owyhee Bend. FYI there are lots of goat's heads there that could cause a leak in a thin tire.

I found the pictures of our flight to the Owyhee Reservoir State Airport. Sure brings back some great memories and again, envy your proximity to some great flying, er landings.
