We had a good weekend for flying. This is the first time I have had KNZ to 10,000 feet. The hill is the Mount Hutt skifield, looking across the Canterbury plains with Christchurch out of sight to the left.
The hacman kept the EGT's under control the whole way.
Previously the highest I had been was 9,500 feet in my 503 powered Maxair Drifter (ZK XPC)

I looked for you at Oshkosh and saw your plane parked by the little red barn but never did find you. I met Mark, the guy that finished the Model IV with his dad. (Jab engine) but never got a chance to meet you. I think the KitFox crowd needs to pick a day for a meet and greet at events like this.
Did you get a picture of Mark's plane. I went to snap a picture and he had already left. I know John from downunder was also there and did not get to meet him. Next event lets plan a meet day.

Our get-together was Friday at 4pm.

Sorry I missed you, Norm. I had my phone # on my prop tag. You should have called… I put it on there for that reason.

    Hi guys
For the past week our Penticton Flying Club has been hosting the CAF crew from Mesa AZ with the B17 Sentamental Journey.
Over 7000 folks have lined up in 34C hot sun just get a chance to tour this remarkable piece of history. Also over 200 ( from 92 year old war vets to lucky preteens) took the opportunity of flights over the Okanagan Valley .
We wish them well on the remainder of their tour.
    I few pics.
    Cheers
    Don

I made a trip across the mountains this week. I know for some this is a regular thing but for a prairie boy who is used to the flat lands of Alberta it was well out of my comfort zone. A friend was delivering his aircraft that he sold, so I tagged along. We flew two 200 mile legs on the way out(Lethbridge to Chiliwack) 5.5hrs with a bit of a head wind at 9500 feet. On the way home due to a 45kt tail wind we did not stop and made it in 3hrs and 10minutes at 11000 feet. It was a smooth and uneventful flight other than my nerves. It was surprising to me how my mind could not get over the fact they were mountains. Like whats the big deal right? My Kitfox doesn't know what I'm flying over, it doesn't care. The flight home I relaxed a bit more so I best do another one so to get more used to it. Fantastic scenery.

Great photos Don. Loved my flight in the B-17 Aluminum Overcast.
    A must do flight.

Mic, mountains deserve a healthy respect no matter how many times you cross them and it does take a little getting used to. Thanks for the beautiful photos.
