Default Another reason to go flying...youtube channel!

Found a new reason to get myself to the field. To make videos for my new youtube channel. I figured that I might as well start saving my flying memories on video. Just have a few up but it's a lot of fun to record them (read 'fly') then come home and do some editing. Be patient as I learn some new tricks with the editing program.
I am using a Contour 1080 cam that I wired out of for the external audio (much cheaper than buying the ready made ones for flying by about $160). I currently slip the tiny microphone under my earphone but plan on hard-wiring it into my headset. I like to have it in the headset instead of just recording the intercom so that I get essentially what I hear when I fly.

    Hope to add more soon.

Good videos. Enjoyed the right seat perspective and the natural soundtrack. Much better than background music. I must learn how to do that. I'd be interested in the microphone used and how it was wired from the Contour.
Now about 3 more Contours mounted on your Kitfox and a chase plane and you got a new 30 minute aviation cable show.

I like the results of the microphone in the headset earpiece. Like Desertfox IV wondered, how did you hook up the mic to the contour?

There are a number of people who have posted online how to get into the camera. I googled 'contourhd audio' and got some youtube videos on how to do it. Essentially you clip the wires to the little internal microphone, extend there leads out of the cameras small microphone hole, and the re-solder it to the end of the longer leads. I used 24ga wire shrink wrapped together with a headset microphone foam cover to enclose the microphone. Small 24ga wires are unnoticed when slipped into the headset. Used a contour bike handlebar mount to secure it to a crossbar. Going to have to try mounting it right on the headset sometime.

Wadeg, Great video's. Looks like you and your Kitfox are getting along well and having fun. How much time do you have on it now? Sounds great on the video, is that about what you get for real inside as you fly? Keep the vids coming.

Thumbs up Re: Another reason to go flying...youtube channel!

    Very Nice videos !

I can use those vids to pre-show passengers what it is like with the all clear doors, I have heard some concern from some about that! Kevin

Nice, hi neighbor. Are you based at CVO?

I have a few channels myself, lots of places you'll probably recognize. I'm using the Oregon Scientific ATC9K.
