Default Kitfox 1050 vs 1200 confusion

    Hi Guys,

I'm new to posting to the forum - been reading for a while.

So I bought a Kitfox IV earlier this year, been flying her for a while now and then last week had a surprise hangar inspection by the local Aviation Association (RAASA) and they flagged a few items on my plane that needed to be sorted out.

One of them was a data plate to be fitted to the tail with make, model, serial number, registration and MTOW on it.

So here is my question - what is the physical difference between a model 4 1050 and model 4 1200 and how do you tell them apart?

I went through the original build logs last night and in the CG section it is marked as 1050 but then at the very back of the CG section is a Kitfox Bulletin #30 saying that the CG may be moved aft to a maximum of 16"and that it has come to their attention that many model 4 build documents left the factory incorrectly marked as 1050lbs instead of 1200lbs.

So now I have no idea which one my model IV is... Obviously the 1200 would be a bonus if it is that cause I have been flying it as 1050 for now.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Probably a quick way to check is the verticle stabilizer and rudder are taller on the 1200 lb classic. 54" if my memory is correct from top to bottom on the 1200. JImChuk

Serial number is the only way to know for sure.
You can contact us directly with the serial number and we can look it up.

My 1992 vintage Model IV-1200 has serial number 1746. Close, but not proof of model.
