    Default Wiring Supply

When you guys start the wiring process, what do you buy for wire? Do you buy a whole spool of each size of wire in a variety of colors? This could get rather expensive. Do you buy just a few basic colors in several sizes and then use wire labels to identify wires? Or do you just buy wire by the foot as needed in the required sizes and colors? This could be rather slow. Help! Never wired anything before other than my house.

I should mention that my panel will be rather simple with Dynon D180 or Skyview, comm radio, xsponder, GPS, intercom and switches/breakers. Many of these items come with premade wire harnesses.

I came up with my wiring diagram first, made a materials list, figured out mounting locations, then estimated wire needed and added 50%. I tried to minimize the number of colors and gauges needed. I bought by the foot because I didn't find much economy in buying by the spool.

If you follow the advice at http://www.aeroelectric.com/articles.html you'll end up in good shape.
