    Hi John
    They are concentrated mineral deposits. They change colors throughout the year. Google Spotted Lake. Quite interesting.
    The Rogers Pass pic was actually at 9500. I have some quite neat pics of glaciers from the same trip. Was returning from a flyin at Fairmont Hot Springs. Had about 50 aircraft from as far away as Saskatoon and Vancouver Island.

    I had the privilege of flying a mission for an environmental organisation called "The Bateleurs" a few days ago.
    We volunteer our time and aircraft for use in the conservation of our environment.
    This time it was for a survey into the habitat and further conservation measures of the Riverine Rabbit https://www.ewt.org.za/DCP/dcp.html?...FeYp0wodc08EdQ which is an evolutionary distinct and severely threatened species. There are an estimated 500 left living globally.
    Beautiful flying in the semi-desert, with superb hospitality from the team!

    What a wonderful job they are doing!!!!

    Yup, Jim.
    South Africa has a lot of taxes on their fuel price......

    It is just over a dollar a litre.
    $ 4.38 per US Gallon?
    Still, I think the Franklin116 Hp performed very well to do 11 hours on 202 litres. 18.4 litres per hour - 4.8 Gal/hour

    For some reason I was thinking Australia, and their dollar is fairly close to ours. 1 -1.32 At that rate it was up around 40 bucks a gallon. Nice pics either way. ;-) JImChuk

    Nice shot Jan. I see you must be careful of wind turbines rather than mountains if flying too low! The country side looks fantastic!

    cheers

    Don
    My Model IV is flying. I wanted to take some photos of the river this morning as we flew the badlands for posting but I was too busy enjoying the ride. I am only cruising about 85 but do not have the inflight adjustable motor installed yet. The 912 motor is running real nice and I am seeing 5750 flat wide open. I am having a ton of fun learning a new airplane. Totally different to fly than the Buzzard. I can get 95mph flat wide open so I am confident with the IFA prop I will see 100-110mph. A lot slower than yours but a lot faster than the Buzzard. I can't remember if I asked you your prop lenght. 70 or 72.
    How long a flight is it to Campbell River for you. Curious
