s7 fuel tanks install question
Just finished temporary rigging jury struts, ready to move on to tanks, leading edge and rest of false ribs near the wing strut brackets. 1st rib is in and butt rib,s also.
Here,s the question.
Do I need to install tanks while the wings are still attached to the fuse?? Can I take wings off and put back on the saw horses or do tanks need to be installed before I remove the wings for final finish???
Thanks, Mike M.
Re: s7 fuel tanks install question
Install the tanks while still rigged to the plane that way you know when you attach your wings everything will be where it is supposed to. If you install your tanks without the wings on the fuselage it could throw off your spar width.
I think if your Number 1 rib was installed you could do it off the plane.
Re: s7 fuel tanks install question
ditto what Josh said. I installed then with wings on and it was a fairly simple process.

mike
I bonded my tanks and #1 rib in place with wings attached.
When I fold & unfold the wings there is no drop or sage in the wing root
At the fuse attachment point .

Thanks all for the replies, good food for thought. I know the build manual doesn't address this so I wanted to hear what others did.

Re: s7 fuel tanks install question
I was told that the wings should be on the airplane for the installation of the fuel tanks.

Here are some pictures of my wing tanks going in.
Re: s7 fuel tanks install question
I installed the tanks with the wings off the plane and have had no trouble. Of course the #1 ribs were glued in with the wings on.
