Re: 582 coolant thermostat
HI, I don't know where you read that using a thermostat is not the thing to do, I feel it is absolutely necessary, not only for warm up but to maintain engine temps on descents and to prevent shock cooling and engine seizure. I wouldn't consider operating a 582 without a Tstat. Check this story.
Re: 582 coolant thermostat
Same engine no problem i only obstruct part of the radiator with aluminium adhesive tape, on the other hand i suffer with difficulties to initiate it in cold weather and you ?
Re: 582 coolant thermostat
Hi 924549
The thermostat in my 582 is stamped 8-93 130 .Keeps temp right, all UK seasons,no messing with rad covers :).MNFlyer has the answer:cool:
Re: 582 coolant thermostat
Hi all, does the thermostat bolt on to the engine block or can you use an inline thermostat and which way is the better way to go.Should I be able to order on from a local rotax snowmobile dealer?
Thanks Willis
Re: 582 coolant thermostat
Hi Willis, no inline thermostat, it fits in the engine cylinder head housing very simple to install, there is a NAPA P/N but I don't have it, but I'm sure you can get one at a Rotax snowmobile dealer that's where I got mine many years ago.

Re: 582 coolant thermostat
Picked this from an old post ...Napa Thermostat part # 18-3558
I dont remember the temp for this therm, but should be 160 deg
I run this thermostat in my gray head and the water temp stays on 160
wether the plane is pointed up or down
Re: 582 coolant thermostat
I have the same cool running issue in Ireland and blank off about half the radiator during the winter months to get the water temp into the green. Does the retrofit of a thermostat apply to a silver top or blue top?

Re: 582 coolant thermostat
Hi Soarhead, both engine can and should be so equipped.
Re: 582 coolant thermostat
Thanks MNflyer, I'll include this mod in my next scheduled maintenance.
