Re: Oratex Fabric Covering
Question for the Oratex guys, I'm getting ready to order my Oratex covering supplies and was wondering if this material could be used for the sides of baggage area. Seems extremely tough and lite, maybe a removable panel for the aft end? Is this a bad idea, any thoughts?
Re: Oratex Fabric Covering
It's pretty tough, but my gut feel is that, if the finished side is on the inside of the sack, baggage will eventually scuff/scrape the finish (if appearance matters; don't think UV would ever be an issue in that particular application).
Re: Oratex Fabric Covering
Like Gary said, it's pretty tough & puncture/tear resistant - stronger than polyfiber according to Oratex, but not really the best choice for that use, in my opinion only. I think a material like what Kitfox uses (Cordura nylon?) is a better choice for the kind of mild abuse that a baggage compartment will probably suffer. It could be a life-threatening situation if something broke through and escaped the compartment, and obstructed flight controls. Again, that is just my opinion.
