I plan on covering my center console with the carpeting that comes with the Kitfox interior kit. What is a good way to attach the label plates (flaps, trim, parking brake, etc.) to the carpeting?
Jim
embroidered the labels for the flaps. It gives a nice finished look.
Not complete yet, but getting there....
That's looking great Dustin. I'm going to have to get over to take a look at that one of these days.

In talking to Paul Leadabrand, his new Kitfox has a carbon fiber cowl and he thinks it is too thin (but very light weight) because he is afraid that if he flexes it too much in normal handling the paint might crack. It is something to think about when using this new light but strong material. Strength is not the whole issue; deflection is also important.

Finally at the stage where I can answer these questions, in stead of drooling over the pic's of someone other's baby: here's my center console. It has connections for two 'old style' headsets and one Sennheiser ANR.
The pockets on the sides are quite small, but they are practical enough I guess - and beautiful, too!
Nice Hans. Did you do your own upholstery? How about the padded center console? Looks good either way!
Very nice. My major gripe about the console in my plane is the bruise that developers on my right leg after a long trip...
I get the same bruise. I used to get it on my left leg too but i moved the door latch that was causing it. Kind of hard to remove the console now since all my wiring and fuel goes through it. I thought about using a piece of this padding. It's fireplace padding for the edges of brick hearths to keep little kids from splitting their heads open on the edges of the bricks.

Storage space is always needed, I added two pockets left and right of the center console.
Here is mine.
This is what I am doing... same black wrinkle finish on side panels & instrument panel.
I've got the same problem others have had- it posted upside down. Must be something with iPad - I've never had the problem with my PC. If I wasn't at OSH, I'd post it from the PC.
Very nice! Both of them, Jon and Bill.
Gotta love that wrinkle finish:D
One photo had two levers that look like dozer steering?what do these do.
The two closest to the firewall are Rudder Adjust. I fairly use them on my plane.
I like the diamond plate aluminum panels on the rudders, and no carpet or kick panel covers. It is definitely a good way to save weight.
In progress shots...
Awesome work on the brake lever!:)
Thanks! I think I got some good advice on that from some Air Force nerd.
Hi Bob,
I used a wrinkle finish paint from a spray can - VHT makes it (available at Advance Auto Parts here in Denver), & Illinois Bronze also makes some. It's relatively easy to get a good, uniform finish. I prepare the aluminum first (Scotchbrite & thorough cleaning), then use a good primer - I like zinc chromate, Vari-prime (Dupont), or epoxy. You have to practice first with how thick a layer of the wrinkle paint to apply - thicker = bigger wrinkles. I prefer a finer wrinkle, so I do what I consider a medium coat - try to be nice & even. If you put it on too light the results will be unsatisfactory. I then immediately use a heat lamp or a heat gun to apply heat starting at an edge & working across the surface as it starts to wrinkle. If you start at an edge it will be nice & uniform. Starting in the middle or in several places at once can cause some undesirable lines as various wrinkling sections or "waves" meet each other. I've found that if you give it a nice long time to cure well that it will be very durable. I've had it on my T-18 panel for over 25 years (the Illinois Bronze product) & haven't had to do a thing with it. In experimenting and chipping it on a test piece, I found that a black Marks-A-Lot touches it up nicely - due to the surface texture, you can't see it. I like the look, it doesn't show finger prints & is relatively non-reflective.
Thanks for the detailed response John. I appreciate it. It helps a lot.
Bob
finished up my console today
Hey TJay...that looks really sharp! Effort well spent.
Clean and simple. Very nice! Which of those toggles is the ejection seat? :)
Anybody get a picture of the center console of that Canadian kit that just sold? And, the how? Classified ad was removed. I should have gotten a screenshot.
I believe the poster said it was a vinyl wrap sold for doing automotive panels.
It's 3m brand vinyl wrap in carbon fiber. It actually "breathes" and is a weaved vinyl.
