New style fuel pump vent line
I'm curious how most have run the vent line from the new style Rotax fuel pumps. I was thinking I'd run it back & terminate it somewhere in the air exit area behind the radiator. I'm assuming a Tygon plastic line would be sufficient since it will normally just be air going back & forth unless the pump diaphragm fails.
Re: New style fuel pump vent line
Hi John,
Installed the new style pump last year for the 5 year rubber replacement. I originally was thinking of the tygon fuel hose; but ended up going with a metal line terminating near the bottom of the firewall out the air duct. Could be just me; but, I considered that the metal line would be free from any possibility of kinking, wouldn't be affected by engine heat and is certainly one less thing under the cowl that could burn/melt.
Re: New style fuel pump vent line
I didn't put one on. The old pump didn't have one...
Re: New style fuel pump vent line
The new style pump has a habit of weeping oil out this vent.
I put a length of Tygon on it with a plug in the end and a couple of vent holes near the pump,
This gets checked on preflight and emptied as necessary,it is settling down and weeping less now.
Re: New style fuel pump vent line
Tygon will be fine. The Quest Kodiak uses Tygon for most of the vent and drain lines on the PT6 engine. Just keep it away from anything that could melt it.
Re: New style fuel pump vent line
I used Tygon and ran it back to the air exit behind the radiator.
