Wasn't in my Kitfox YET but shot some morning photos
I had a beautiful flight yesterday (Saturday) in and around the foothills of the Rockies, west of Denver. Perfect weather, blue skies & probably 100 miles visibility. Same blue skies this morning, but looking out my back door the trees were swinging and bending and the sky was populated with this... a very good sign that it's not a good day to go flying downwind, in or around the mountains. Those ragged ones, along with the beautiful lenticulars are talking to me loud & clear - "Don't even think about it". Weather moving in with a little snow tonight.
Beautiful picture :)
You know that flying saucers hide in those clouds.
Naahhhh...I've been to Roswell, NM...Nothing wierd out that way...wink wink.;)
I was out that way myself not long ago and took this pic. On my way to Durango, CO today, I over flew Shiprock & Farmington...really is a beautiful place to fly...for the desert.:D

now that's a landmark :) cool pic Chris
That's a great pic. I've flown over it several times but always at FL410 or FL430. It's easy to spot on a clear day.
went flying yesterday the album for it is here.

I got to fly both airplanes. The hangar for the rv had to be cleared of about 6 inches of snow to get it out. The kitfox, I just run the car over the snow a little to knock down the berm and went for it. I flew both to cda Idaho and flew the kitfox last. got some good sunset pics and landed just after the sun went down. nice and smooth air, some wind it was pretty much down the runway @ about 3. very nice flights.
Cool pic's Steve and I like the "SlyFox" hat :)
yup, I got a shirt also.
waiting for the airport to clear. the area is now open. probably be flying at the same time, between 3 and 5.:D
Slyfox,
Great pics. Thanks for sharing the ride!
Beautiful pictures, Slyfox. I love the sunset!
You know, it has been a bit chilly and snowy up here in the Midwest lately, so much so that there are not a lot of light aircraft out and around......did make it out yesterday as the OAT broke Zero F......The winter landscape has it's own beauty, enhanced by the comfort that the oil temp and CHT are holding at Summer temps (with a little help from miscellaneous things)....then, the thoughts of soft summer flights over the verdant carpet of fields and forests easily wash into a person's thoughts and I felt at least some need to share some photos of Kitfox Views and Sunsets.....and maybe a little need to think where this summer's Kitfox travels might take us......
Cheers,

Thanks for sharing, Dave. You gave us a little bit of everything. Loved the pics.
Dave, the color and patterns in those farm fields are beautiful.
Dave,
Really nice pictures, I particularly like the first two.
Nice pics Dave. The views of past flights on nice days and the dreams of future good weather days are hopefully enought to get us through this never ending winter.

Beautiful pictures, Dave... We are so lucky to be able to fly & experience beauty like this! Thank you!
A few KF's (a 4, 5, & 7) out enjoying the pretty weather.
Dave T,
Great photo of the gaggle of Kitfoxes:) The three models look good in formation....So was there a 4th KF taking the photos?
Going to be a while yet til we can see the ground under the white stuff up here!.....Good to be reminded there is open ground out there somewhere!...Looks like I'll be shoveling 8" of "partly cloudy" away from the hangar again tomorrow....:o
Sincerely,

Not a 4th today. The photo plane is an Aeroprakt A20. Our 4th KF was able to join us today.
Here is where I fly in Garland, the red arrow points to approximately my house. Dallas is in the background.

I flew over to Canton Texas to look at some Property just north of Canton, here is a Fly-bys.

A personal observation, I am not impressed with Dallas, it is entirely too big, nothing but flat land, too many people. I have lived here 30+ years, and have never liked it, but I was able to stay gainfully employed for the entire time, until I finally retired. If I could convince the wife, I would move!
nice Paul,.. I here you about dallas ,.I'm a country boy,..and I can't stand it when the houses are so close to each other that you can lean against one and spit and hit another, my wife is from dallas, she wants to move back there,.I told her I would move to texas,.but about an hour from Dallas by car :) so I'm looking for land north east of Dallas
Really nice spring day the Pacific North West today. Puget sound with Mt Baker in the back ground
A morning flight yesterday to the Columbia River above the Wanapum Dam. A couple weeks ago someone noticed a bulge in the Spillway. They inspected and found a 2 inch by 65 foot long crack in one of the pillars. The water level was lowered 26 feet and the crack closed up. Now they are doing more inspecting and trying to figure out how to fix it.
Construction started in 1959 and finished and water backed up in 1964. This is the first time in 50 years much of the shore line has been exposed. The officials have closed the entire shore line between Wanapum and Rock Island dams to protect archaeology sites. And for safety. At least one person sank in the mud up to their waste and had to be rescued.
As a kid I spent quite a bit of time along the shore of the river there so was quite interested in seeing what I could see. Kitfox is a fantastic observation and photo platform.
For reference here is a 1954 aerial photo of the old vantage town site and bridge. The dam was built just off the bottom of the picture.

Close up of the old vantage highway leading to the old bridge. Note the foundations. They have scooped the mud off the old highway and are using it to put launch boats for the divers that are inspecting the dam. All other boat launches are high and dry.

West Bar. It was created by sediment from the ice age floods. See the ripple marks created from the waves when the fllood water was estimated to be 200 feet deep and flowing 70 mph. The wave crests are about 100 yards apart.

Turned back down stream now. This town was not there last time I went by this spot about 1959 in my Uncle's boat. I didn't know it existed and is not on any highway maps or other maps I can find. On google maps it just says Wanapum.

Great snaps Tom,
As a former dam builder, I always find dams interesting.
Great photos Tom,
I have played here a lot.
We have a family beach site on this stretch I had seen photos of our waterfront and knew it was way down, but no way thought it was to this extent.
Fix that damn!
I think the city you saw was Sunland Estates
went flying today. I found the river to be nice and low. there was an island that looked real nice, so I landed. this is normally under water, nice to have this in my back yard Attachment 6541
Nice photo Slyfox. You have a beautiful backyard to play in. Neat submerged Kitfox runway waiting for you there. Just had to get that pesky water out of the way.;)
actually after the water goes away it takes some time for it to dry up. one year I landed on it and threw mud all over the plane. looked like I took it mudden. I was afraid to get out of the plane. so I took back off. this time it looked pretty good, I was able to get out of the plane. the tail wheel went down in the dirt about 3 inches. not to bad.
I estimated the roll out about 150ft. I three pointed and the tail wheel in the dirt helped stop. On take off I raised the tail right away and lifted off about 50ft from where I hit the throttle. you can't see it but the sides drop off all around at least 15 ft. right where I stopped it drops down 5 to 10ft on a safe gradual. I've rolled over that in the past. just a fun spot to land. you end up coming in just off the water with 200 ft sides on the right and on the left about 500 it's pretty narrow. come around the corner and there it is. fun. definitely a kitfox landing spot.
another shot from the direction I flew in from. Attachment 6545
Hello All!
I am from South Africa, and I recently sold my C170B to get the money to buy my dream.....
A Kitfox5 ZU-DEC with lion pawprints on it. It has a Franklin engine in it, and this is going to be her home base. The Farm - beef and wool and the hangar is right next to my house.
Very excited!
looks like a fun place to fly out of. also I see you have a cheering section down there.
Nice Field!
Great looking Model 5 Rooster. Enjoy every flight. Fun looking strip.
great pictures...I googled your town. Looks like awesome country side. What are the GPS numbers for the airfield in the picture. I see one just west of town but the building are a bit differant. Keep the pictures coming:D
